What’s working for you and YOUR family? What isn’t? Let this be something you think about as you go through your week.
In organizing, as in life, there is no one size fits all. There may be somethi
ng that is working well for your family. Don’t change that! Even if it doesn’t fit an “ideal” for your friends or neighbors or parents, it doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do for YOU!
Alternately–look at the things that aren’t working. Explore solutions, and pick the one that fits closest with your values, time space, etc. Doesn’t work? Abandon it!
One of the things that sticks with me from school growing up is a teacher who told me “Reading a book that doesn’t interest you? Abandon it and choose a new one!” I believe my seventh grade teacher told me this. To be given permission to leave something that wasn’t working for me and move on was one of the most empowering things I had ever heard. For all the years of life up until then, I thought I had to stick out boring books until the end. No more!
Sometimes it’s the littlest things that get us going. Think of the little things that don’t work for you. Give yourself permission to let those go!
