I am so happy to be on vacation!

Okay, here’s the thing – I’m actually writing this in February, way in advance, so that I don’t have to worry about getting newsletters done on vacation.  But, but the time you’re reading this, I will be on vacation – and it will be so so sweet!

I’d like to talk a little bit about how I am packing this time around.  It is definitely an experiment – I can’t tell you exactly how these new methods will work, but I am happy to try them out and share.

Last February (2014) I traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for my 30th birthday.  This was before I had a wonderful partner in my life.  I am happy to share that this year, I am traveling to Ixtapa, Mexico with my sweetie!

Last year, I packed a big suitcase with many different things in it.  I have a hard time traveling light, since I like clothes so much.

Part of the reason I didn’t try to squeeze everything into a carry-on last year is that I hate the hassle of getting a carry-on on and off of the plane – I’d rather just check the bag so that I don’t have to haul it around the airport and shoving it in the overhead bin.

However, what I’ve learned is that almost every time I fly, when I get to my gate, the airline requests for any passengers that are willing to check their bag at the gate.

What does this mean?  The first is that I don’t have to deal with my bag on the airplane, and the second is that I don’t have to pay to check it (as long as it is carry-on sized.)  Win-win!

So, this year, to try to promote minimalism as well as save a little money, I have invested in a new, carry-on sized suitcase (polka dotted, of course!)

Getting organized for travel is fun when you have the right equipment!

The other thing I have looked into is getting travel bags.  Travel bags are a way to categorize your stuff inside your bag so that it stays a bit more organized.  Though I’m not usually a fan of over-sorting, I like travel bags because if you suddenly have to open your suitcase to get something out, only a few things fall out – instead of everything!

Sub-divided for success!

Now the question is – will these things be helpful?  Only time will tell!  I will keep you updated.  In the meantime, I’m going to get some rest and relaxation in!

BONUS!

Since I’ve written this, I went on a trip to Ikea.  What do you know – Ikea has travel bags for a third of the price!  Grr!  Since I already had enough for myself, I decided to buy some for a fun giveaway.  How do you win?  Sign up for Home Key Organization’s Mailing List here, then visit this post on Home Key Organization’s Facebook Page telling me what your dream vacation is.  Winners will be selected April 1st (after I get back, of course – no need to work on vacation, right?!)
